Painting with Purpose

I have been painting.  I'm 99 percent finished with a painting a friend is buying as a surprise gift.  I've always said no to commission work so this is a new experience for me, and I find it nerve-wracking.  I can't post the painting yet so I used the iPad PhotoBooth Kaleidoscope to take this photo of a part of it.  I liked this photo so much I took more photos--in the studio; then in the house.
My water bottle and Blue Man painting.

A carved plaster sculpture from years ago, yellow ducks, and radio.

The shadow of my two-headed dog.

He also has two tails!

Makes me wonder why I paint--I could just walk around taking kaleidoscope photos of everything.  (I get distracted--too much arting around.)

  1. oh, I am the same way, I could just give up paint and mess around with cameras and filters. It IS thrilling...! These are really beautiful! I can't wait (though, I know I have to) ...to see your commissioned painting. You'll show it to us, won't you?

    1. Celeste, I do wonder why I have to paint when so many interesting things can be done with cameras and computers and apps. Back to that question, What is art?

    1. Hi Don. It's just something Called PhotoBooth that came with the iPad. There's probably something similar for phones. Even the messiest part of my studio looks cool kaleidoscoped; then I try identify what's in the photo.

    1. Hi SamArtDog. I'm out of my usual half-bubble-off-plumb element with this painting. I like the whirlies.

  6. I absolutely LOVE these photos! They are beautiful. It shows you have an artistic eye to be able to see the potential.

I've often thought about just sticking with the camera or computer for art and then I get the drawing and writing bug again. I guess it's great to have so many options even if it's so distracting!

I look forward to seeing your commission. It sounds stressful but I have complete faith it will be wonderful.

    1. Hi Mary. You may have this on your iPad, too. Just point and when you see something interesting, click. My time would be better spent taking classes--following your example.

    1. Hi Gail. There is SO much that can be done on the iPad--and I know so little. I can say that I have spent a year playing around on it, and loved every minute. I can also say that I might need a parent to set limits! (It's fun to be old and goal-less.)
