It's a Wonderful Blog

Thinking Cap, photo from Taj Mahal in Atlantic City
(It took six attempts to get my head aligned with the faucet.)

I began following Harry Kent's blog Tachisme because I loved his self-portraits. His post from today--collaborative abstract painting and the accompanying comments--made me don my "thinking cap." Great reading.

Updated Sat., July 17. Wrap-around mirrors always fascinate and confuse me.

  2. Don had nothing to do with this. ;-) I wish he would have, though, because it's pretty darn cool. Keep on donning!

  3. Hi Peggy. Harry's blog is fascinating.

Don--what can I say? I read your comment earlier. Since I had "donned" my thinking cap, I tried to come up with additional men's names that can be verbed......bob, chuck, chip, jimmy...

  4. ...and don't forget McGuyver...

BTW, I went to Harry Kent's blog after leaving my comment here last night and really enjoyed the running commentary about those great collaborative abstract paintings/photos. Thanks for pointing it out.

Meanwhile, your collaborations with the mirrors are really fun and a joy to look at.

  5. Hallie, I saw your photo this morning before work but didn't get a chance to comment. And now I'm glad I came back because I missed the second one. You are one phenomenally creative artist! I am fascinated by how you think and use your environment to make art. It is artistic genius.
And I'm so dull in my ability to think- I couldn't figure out what Don was talking about. DUHHHH. Chuck it up to multi-tasking- the modern day disease. (Did you get Chuck??? Wish I knew a Chuck then that would have made more sense.)
Now then, I'm off to check out Harry Kent's blog. Sounds like I'll be able to jimmy out some things to think about. Thanks for the recommendation! You are a chip off the old block. I really do slay myself!!!! :-)))))

  6. Hi Pam. The second photograph was an afterthought--I was trying to determine what was real and what was reflection in the first one. Tricky. My friend and I were each given a suite at Taj Mahal--mine had the mirrored bar (notice my goldfish crackers and coffee); my friend's had a bidet (& I have a photo of that--looks like a fountain). I always play with the camera; I don't think of it as artistic but, later, I can usually find a photo to match a topic.

I know you'll don a thinking cap when you check out Harry's blog.

  7. FABU! It makes me remember a restroom in the 60's in Chicago. Oh my gosh, I loved that restroom. It was in a steak restaurant. I love how you aligned the faucet with your head. You are TOO CLEVER!

  8. Thanks, Celeste. I remember the elaborate restrooms from the 60's.

  9. Hallie, love the photos and sounds like you must be out having some fun with friends. The glow of the thinking cap is perfect.

I checked out Harry's blog -- fascinating and the topic seems to resonate with discussions we've had on Kathy's blog. I'm beginning to think there are no answers, just questions. He's an interesting artist.

  10. Hi Mary, the photos are from a few years back. I was searching for something that might portray "thought." (Actually, it looks a bit like my brain is being vacuumed.)

    Glad you enjoyed Harry's blog.

  12. Fun stuff! If you have a cell phone w/ a camera, they're good for capturing entertaining shots. Especially if the camera isn't that good, the distortion is better!
I read your last post today. I'm glad your chair has a home, but saddened to read about the car accident.

  13. I love the mirrors too! It's so fascinating how they disrupt the space. I like having to figure out what's really going on! Has it been hot in SOVA? Sure has been here!

  14. Hi Indogomar. I've seen your cell phone pictures and loved how you use them. I have a no-frills cellphone stashed in my purse and almost never used.

Hi Davida. You have some great paintings using mirrors--they are fun to study. We're in the 90's here in SOVA; August weather arrived early. I stay inside the house; luckily, my workshop has air conditioning too.

  16. Hi Raena. I forgot that I saw a nice portrait of you on his blog about a month ago. His work is terrific.

  17. I have been following Harry Kent too. His self-portraits are wonderfully expressive. When I was in graduate school I was in my 40s and the 20 somethings had very little to say in comparison to us geezas (feminine form of geezers). I said then and do now that age seasons one for art.
