I've been away from my studio/workshop for a couple of weeks. A new refrigerator meant cleaning out the old one--a dirty job. I found pre-cooked bacon with a use before date of 2005. These three cool guys have always had the spot on top of the refrigerator--from the utility room, they peer around the kitchen doorway and keep an eye on the front door. Their heads bob in rhythm to a heavy wash load or the stereo. They got baths and, while trying to get them in the perfect spot and position, I accidentally leaned against my new water dispenser--I got bathed from the waist down with cold water.
Guests (relatives) from NJ and MD arrived last week so a boat ride was in order--I had not been on the boat in three years. It's a long walk down the hill to the dock (I had to make a second trip up and down for the key) and an even longer walk up the hill when we return. I sometimes forget just how beautiful it is on Buggs Island Lake and how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful small town.
I don't think you can call any village a town unless it has a Best Western awaiting the weary traveler... oh wait, there it is.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a good time with your guests. Were they there when you showered your lower half? I wish I would have been.

those goldfish clouds made me smile--well, I love your refrigerator men too-AND your town. Lovely post. Makes me want to live where you live.
ReplyDeleteThree cool guys, indeed! They're so whimsical and wonderful. Your pictures remind me of when I used to live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We spent a lot of time on the water, and also a lot of time waiting for draw-bridges to open and close. You're lucky to live in such a great part of the world!
ReplyDeleteI like that refrigerator arrangement.
ReplyDeleteHi Don. Across the street from the Best Western is the Lake Motel--both owned by the same person--plus B&B's, and beautiful cabins in Occoneechee State Park across the bridge. We also have about 15 restaurants, 18 churches, at least 4 banks, lots of antique shops and a liquor store--all the necessities. (No one was around when I cold showered--I had to change clothes and mop the floor.)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Celeste. It is a nice town--more fishermen than artists, though.
Kathy, I've always thought that houses should be fun. My kitchen dishwasher dispenser is "Mr. Cold" by Alessi--the soap drips from his nose.
Thanks Art Trip. These heads were originally put together for an ugly $2.50-floor lamp--I wrote head lamp on the shade. My husband didn't want "junk" in the house; I couldn't pitch the heads--I recycled them.
Hi Halle, Cool heads! I think its fascinating what you can create from found objects!
ReplyDeleteCool refrigerator guys and a fabulous town! I hope you had a lovely visit with relatives- sure sounds like a good time.
ReplyDeleteHi Peggy. These guys are cool; I've drawn them several times. I love "finding" things--must be the hunter-gatherer in me.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam. This is a nice place to live (most of the time). We enjoyed the company--now we're enjoying the quiet. It's back to art for me.
Oh my goodness! I'm loving that sculpture!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Raena. All houses need a few fun pieces--they brighten the day.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so beautiful where you live. Love the goldfish clouds. When I read some of your things (remembering when you were watching the festivities from your front porch last fourth of July) it makes me want to move there. Can't leave the grandkids but am so happy for you and Dave.
ReplyDeleteHi, Anonymous (aka Mary Fran). Thanks for leaving a comment. I had been snacking on goldfish when I noticed the clouds. You're in a good place already; I do miss the museums and the zoo, the Sunday brunch on Kent Island, and shuffleboard. I don't miss the traffic around D.C.
